  • Mike's Background

Mike has worked in the computer industry since 1988 and as a senior level system administrator and IT Manager since the mid-1990s. Past employers include Levi Strauss & Co, Amplitude Software, Critical Path, IDEO Product Development, MailFrontier and the Alzheimer's Association of Northern California. Mike has been providing consulting services in Boston and the Bay Area since 1991. Current clients include Charles Zukow Associates (public relations), Quan Yin Healing Arts Center (community clinic), EcoNetworks (consulstantcy), OnTime Consulting (outsourced IT), Piedmont Choirs (children's arts program), and BrainBang (marketing communications). Past clients have included Small Press Distribution, Jennifer Altman Foundation, CORE Studio, the Friends of Photography/Ansel Adams Center, South End Press, United States Trust Company and the National Center for Fair & Open Testing.

Whether it's a complete, ground up networking installation, bringing you or your organization on line for the first time with web and email services, regular and emergency maintenance and repairs, standardization of desktop operating systems and software, and training. His experience runs the gamut of platforms and operating systems and includes all Macintosh and Windows desktop and server releases as well as Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD.

Mike is extremely knowledgeable about such complex installations as Windows Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange as well as Virtual Private Networking (VPN) for both remote access and connecting remote locations together. Think of it as one stop shopping for desktop, network and server support. Having worked with a number of non-profit organizations, he is also well versed in working with limited budgets and utilizing free and low-cost software that can sometimes meet your needs better than the big boys. Mike also has a sliding fee scale for non-profit organizations with limited budgets.

Mike's philosophy is that computers should be tools. When tools are working against you and not for you, then you have a problem that needs to be solved. Systems for their own sake don't do anything but eat up your time and money. Ultimately you shouldn't need a PhD to run your computers. Contact Mike today and get on the road to solving those computer and networking problems, instead of working around them.
